So, it's been a week since I signed up for this Kiltwalk thing. I thought I'd look back over how my "training" is going.
According to my new toy, a Garmin Vivofit, my milage over the last week has been as follows:
- 1st - 7.6 miles
- 2nd - 13.3 miles
- 3rd - 5.3 miles
- 4th - 5.7 miles
- 5th - 5.6 miles
- 6th - 6.2 miles
- 7th - 5.5 miles
- 8th - 3.1 miles (so far!)
The obvious outlier there is Tuesday the 2nd, when I walked out to Peterculter along the railway line after work. And that's only half of the distance I'll need to do this weekend! Also, this is the total distance for the day, including my usual lunchtime wander, not just that walk. Eeep!
About half way there
The Garmin increases the required step count each day, and it's getting harder and harder to meet the goal, particularly if the weather is bad (which it almost always is here!). On Saturday I managed a reasonable walk from Buckie to Finechty, only just making it to the goal when the rain started and never finished. On Sunday I was at a mere 2,000/11,000 steps at around 6pm as the rain was heavy all day. I did however manage to head out and make the target after that.

This week I'll have to get a couple of decent walks in, though there's only so much you can do in an evening. I reckon once this week is over however the goals will no longer be met!
